I wonder, what comes to mind when you hear the word scientist. There are so many misconceptions about what being a scientist entails. I guess most first think of a scruffy old man, thanks to the immortalisation of Einstein on one particular occasion over half a century ago.

Misconceptions abound, hardly anyone thinks of women in science, for instance. Marie Curie and Ada Lovelace are among two of the thousands of unsung heroes of science. But it’s not simply about gender, there are so many aspects to the work and life of a researcher that need to be understood. The creative nature of the profession for example, their perseverance, their failures and successes, and above all the importance of their work to our society.

Give your kids the chance to be a scientist, by exploring, imagining, experimenting and creating at Kids Dig Science.

Kids Dig Science is coordinated by the Science in the City team at the Malta Chamber of Scientists. This season, the team will once again meet with the scientists to find out the latest in all things science, then cut it down to size for children above the age of 6. It was conceived to inspire curious little minds, to ignite their passions and foster creativity. If you’re looking for a way to inspire your children, Kids Dig Science is a must.

The simple and innovative way we approach each and every science subject, that is, with a comical, interactive puppet show followed by a hands on science workshop, means the kids get to learn important scientific facts while having fun. Our puppets and audience are in for a blast this year with topics like flying, fractions and what it means to be a scientist. We will need all the little creative minds we can get to help our puppets solve the multitude of problems coming their way.

Min jaf x’jiġik f’moħħok meta tisma’ l-kelma ‘xjenzat’, tant hemm kunċetti żbaljati dwar dak li jirrikjedi milli tkun xjenzat. Nassumi li ħafna nies jimmaġinaw xi raġel anzjan imgermed u mqanfed, grazzi għall-viżwal impitter f’moħħna ta’ Einstein daqs nofs seklu ilu.

Issib diversi kunċetti skorretti rigward dan is-suġġett, ftit huma dawk li jaħsbu dwar in-nisa fl-industrija tax-xjenza pereżempju. Marie Curie u Ada Lovelace huma biss tnejn minn eluf ta’ eroj li ma tantx jissemmew fl-istorja tax-xjenza. Iżda din mhix xi ħaġa biss tal-ġeneru, hemm ħafna aspetti relatati max-xogħol u l-ħajja ta’ riċerkatur li jinħtieġu jiġu mifhuma aħjar. Fost dawn l-aspetti nsibu, in-natura kreattiva tal-professjoni, l-element ta’ perseveranza, id-disfatti u s-suċċessi tagħhom u fuq kollox l-importanza ta’ xogħolhom għas-soċjetà.

Agħti lit-tfal tiegħek opportunità li jkunu xjenzati billi jiskopru, jimmaġinaw, jesperimentaw u jikkreaw ma’ Kids Dig Science.

Kids Dig Science hija kkoordinata mit-tim tal-Festival tax-Xjenza fi ħdan il-Kamra Maltija tax-Xjenzati. Dan l-istaġun, it-tim jerġa’ jiltaqa ma’ diversi xjenzati bil-għan li jsir jaf l-aħħar aħbar mill-oqsma kollha tax-xjenza, u sabiex dan jerġa’ jinħadem mill-ġdid għal tfal li għandhom ‘il fuq minn 6 snin. Din l-attività ġiet imfassla biex tispira lill-imħuħ żgħażagħ kurjużi, tħeġġeġ il-passjonijiet tagħhom u trawwem il-kreattività. ‘Kids Dig Science’ hija tassew attività perfetta għal dawk li dejjem qed ifittxu attivitajiet li jinkoraġixxu entużjażmu fit-tfal tagħhom għal diversi suġġetti.

Bil-mod sempliċi u innovattiv li nittrattaw kull suġġett xjentifiku; jiġifieri permezz ta’ preżentazzjoni interattiva bil-pupazzi, b’laqta komika segwita minn workshop xjentifiku prattiku; it-tfal ser ikunu qegħdin jitgħallmu filwaqt li jiddevertu. Il-pupazzi u l-udjenzi tagħna għandhom sena promettenti quddiemhom fejn ser jiġu ttrattati suġġetti bħat-titjir, frazzjonijiet u xi tfisser li tkun xjenzat. ser ikollna bżonn imħuħ kreattivi kemm jista’ jkun possibbli sabiex jgħinu lill-pupazzi jsolvui l-problemi kollha li qed jaffaċċjaw.
